Conditions I treat

Hip impingement
Femoroacetabular impingement: abnormal contact between the femoral head and the acetabulum in certain movements. Assessment, motor control, mobility and strength, and coordination with the orthopaedic surgeon when needed.
What you may notice: Groin or side-of-hip pain, especially when flexing the hip, sitting for long, squatting or in twisting sports; sometimes clicking or a feeling of locking.
Psoas pain
Overload or irritation of the iliopsoas tendon at the front of the hip, typical in runners, footballers and sports involving hip flexion. Assessment and progressive loading.
What you may notice: Groin or upper thigh pain when lifting the leg, climbing stairs, running or getting out of a car; sometimes a click at the front of the hip.
Deep gluteal syndrome
Entrapment of the sciatic nerve in the deep buttock region (piriformis and rotators). Manual therapy, neural mobility and exercise.
What you may notice: Buttock pain, sometimes running down the back of the thigh, worse when sitting for long, running or rotating the hip; tingling or an electric-shock feeling.
Quadratus femoris (ischiofemoral) syndrome
Compression of the quadratus femoris muscle in a narrow space between the ischium and the lesser trochanter. Ultrasound assessment and strength and mobility work.
What you may notice: Deep pain in the buttock and top of the thigh, worse when walking with long strides, extending the hip or sitting; may run down the back of the thigh.
